Introducing Selenite, a new fragrance

Soft, powdery floral notes mixed with hints of vanilla and mandarin, housed inside a selenite crystal.  Each light-catching crystal bottle is unique, and is topped with a silver mister and matching overcap.  It is packaged in a velvety drawstring pouch.  This bottle contains 4ml of perfume made exclusively from premium grade plant-based essential oils and absolutes.

Sounds in 6 Cities

If you are in Portland tomorrow, Friday the 23rd, please join us at the Littman Gallery’s closing reception for Sounds in 6 Cities.  It runs from 5-8pm.  While you are there, you can see another exhibition at the White Gallery, a set of graphical scores by musician, Jordan Dykstra.

Sounds in 6 Cities is a video installation of streaming live footage originating from points in the USA, United Kingdom, Canada, Australia, Chile, and Iceland.  Each location is equipped with an outdoor sound sculpture and video camera, operating continuously through May 28th.

Sounds in 6 Cities is funded in part by the Regional Arts & Culture Council through a Project Grant.  A huge thank you to all the volunteers who helped work on this project, Portland State University’s IT Department, the Littman Gallery, and the Regional Arts & Culture Council.

Tonight!

allie

7:30-10pm at Studio 2, 810 SE Belmont in Portland, OR, my dear friend Allie Hankins will be hosting Bull in a China Shop, a fundraising event to support the production of her upcoming dance performance, Like a Sun That Pours Forth Light but Never Warmth.

This one-of-a-kind Mitsumata branch necklace, made with 14k gold and 23k gold leaf, will be available tonight to the highest bidder. I believe you will also get a bottle of gold sparkles just for showing up.

Looking for volunteers around the world!

I’m looking for volunteers outside of the US to assist me with a month-long project this May.  Participants will receive a small sound sculpture and wireless webcam.  They will be asked to place them directly outside their home and maintain a live stream of the sculpture’s activity for the month.  In addition to having  a fast, reliable internet connection, volunteers should be dependable and easy to reach/communicate with (in English) for set up and any necessary troubleshooting that arrises throughout May.  If you are interested in participating, please email me at stephanie@stephaniesimek.com.  Thank you!

This exhibition brings together six artists using systems of measurement. The map, the index, and the ruler give representation to ideas, objects, histories, or their surroundings. During translation things are lost, or understood. The map is 1 to 1. The ruler is personal. The idea is made concrete. The region erased.  Color becomes sound.
